About the Upper East Side gallery scene
This is the most genteel of the city's gallery districts, set among the townhouses and grand apartment buildings near Museum Mile. With the Met, the Guggenheim, the Frick, and the Neue Galerie all close by, the neighborhood's galleries lean toward the classical and the historical, secondary-market masterworks and established names rather than emerging experiments.
It makes for a rewarding day that mixes museums and galleries in a single walk, especially along Madison Avenue and the side streets off it. These are the Upper East Side galleries we track.
